<p>OMRON announced on June 2, 2025, that it is opening a proof-of-concept (PoC) centre in Sydney, its first such facility in Oceania. Located at the Engineering Innovation Hub in Parramatta and established with Western Sydney University, the centre is aimed at manufacturers across Australia and New Zealand.</p><p>The practical purpose is to investigate an automation challenge and gather evidence before a company commits capital. That makes the site relevant to manufacturers assessing industrial robots, cobots and connected production technologies when the technical fit or safety requirements are not yet settled.</p><h2>Testing an automation proposal before capital is committed</h2><p>The centre will support tests involving robotics, artificial intelligence, industrial vision, IoT and safety technologies in a real environment. A deployment team can use that setting to examine whether a proposed technology mix addresses a defined industrial problem while the investment decision remains open.</p><p>OMRON says the offer includes feasibility studies, PoC trials and collaborative engineering projects tailored to user challenges. This gives manufacturers a focused route from an initial automation question to project-specific evidence. A general demonstration can show what a system is capable of, but it cannot establish that the same approach will perform identically in every production setting.</p><a href="https://robotics.omron.com/news/automation-robotics-poc-australia">OMRON’s announcement</a><h2>Training sits alongside the technical trials</h2><p>The Sydney site will also provide hands-on technical training, workshops and upskilling activities. For a manufacturer considering an industrial robot or cobot, that links the technology assessment with the knowledge needed to understand and operate the proposed solution.</p><p>OMRON also says the centre will support joint research and development, innovation support and knowledge sharing with partners. The company describes its partnership with Western Sydney University as providing access to job-ready STEM talent and practical experience in real-world conditions.</p><h2>Safety can be examined during the PoC</h2><p>Safety technologies are included in the same validation scope as robotics, AI, vision and IoT. Safety questions can therefore be considered during the PoC, before a company decides whether and how to proceed with a deployment.</p><p>The outcome still belongs to the application being assessed. The announcement does not claim that a test at the centre guarantees safe production operation for every site, configuration or technology mix. Manufacturers will need to compare the findings with the conditions and requirements of their own application.</p><h2>What the announcement does not establish</h2><p>The same boundary applies to performance. OMRON has not reported a project-specific deployment count or measured outcome for the new centre in the announcement, so the facility’s broader impact cannot yet be judged from operating results.</p><p>That does not make the centre a purely promotional showroom. Its stated role is to help turn a defined industrial question into evidence through feasibility studies, trials and collaborative engineering. The useful decision for a manufacturer is consequently narrower than “should we automate?”: it is whether the proposed equipment combination addresses the particular process under the particular safety conditions being studied.</p><h2>A Sydney link to OMRON’s wider automation network</h2><p>OMRON says the centre forms part of a global network of 45 automation centres and PoC laboratories. The company describes that network as connecting local customers with thousands of application engineers and worldwide expertise.</p><p>For manufacturers in Australia and New Zealand, the immediate change is access to a regional place to explore deployment questions before investment. The trade-off is that testing can improve the quality of a decision without replacing the application-specific assessment required before production use.</p><p>OMRON’s Sydney PoC centre is best understood as a validation resource for industrial automation projects.
