In an article published on April 8, 2026, CEO Matt Bush discussed the issue with <a href="https://www.hirebotics.com/newsroom/cobots-in-construction-how-hirebotics-is-tackling-welder-shortages-with-automation">Construction Owners</a>, using large building projects to show where robotic welding could fit.</p><h2>Large construction projects are the focus</h2><p>Hirebotics points to a seismic-renovation project in San Francisco scaled around 200 welders per shift, as well as data-center construction in rural America. These examples connect the case for cobots to projects where welding demand follows the size and pace of the build. The company’s argument is practical: when qualified labor is difficult to find, contractors may need another way to add welding capacity without waiting for the labor pool to expand.</p><p>Hirebotics says its cobots can help contractors address skilled-labor shortages. The company’s page also cites 5% market penetration for Hirebotics. That figure belongs to the company’s own account and is not an independent measure of cobot adoption across the construction industry. It therefore describes the opportunity Hirebotics sees around this bottleneck, rather than establishing how widely such systems are already used.</p><h2>Beacon is designed to widen access to robot operation</h2><p>The account’s main differentiator is Beacon, Hirebotics’ platform for controlling the robot. The company presents Beacon as giving any operator control of the cobot. Paired with the cloud-connected design, that points to a deployment model intended to make operation more accessible to a wider group of workers.</p><p>Accessibility is not the same as a complete welding qualification or a safety guarantee. The article does not provide a measurable safety result, weld-quality benchmark, uptime figure or productivity comparison for the San Francisco project or the data-center work. Nor does it establish that every operator can safely run a welding cell or that the robot can handle every construction weld. The examples identify the staffing problem Hirebotics is targeting, but they do not quantify the performance a contractor should expect at another site.</p><h2>The proposed change is operational as well as technical</h2><p>For contractors, the proposed shift is organizational. A cloud-connected cobot could extend welding capacity around a large project, while Beacon is intended to make robot operation available to more workers. That may help relieve pressure when qualified welders are scarce, but it does not remove the need to define the work, supervise the cell and assess whether the resulting welds meet project requirements.</p><p>Hirebotics also claims that customers deploying cobots regularly end up hiring more people rather than fewer. This supports the company’s argument that automation can increase a contractor’s capacity instead of simply reducing headcount. However, the page provides neither a dataset nor a breakdown of those hires, so the claim cannot be used to predict the employment effect of a future deployment.</p><p>Hirebotics’ announcement identifies a clear use case for construction cobots: welding-heavy projects with difficult staffing needs. It is not yet a performance or safety case study with enough published measurements to forecast results elsewhere. The trade-off is straightforward.
